Position Summary:
As a member of the Roads team, the Roads Labourer is responsible for the maintenance of City roads and infrastructure.
Road Operations Support:
- Assists road operators with various tasks, maintenance activities, and general clean-up.
- Plows and sands within approved mapped areas.
- Maintains and clears roads of debris.
- Maintains all street signs and installs, upgrades, or replaces signs as required.
- Ensures all road signs are visible.
- Maintains inventory and logs of sign locations, types, and installation dates.
- Assists with the line-painting program.
- Operates various pieces of equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Inspections:
- Completes road inspections and records information for tracking purposes.
- Reports any required repairs on equipment or vehicles to the Roads Coordinator.
- Logs time spent on tasks.
- Performs weekly inspections of vehicles and equipment.
- Completes all required documentation.
Accountabilities:
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge as required.
- Appropriate and responsible use of confidential information; maintains confidentiality and security of all information related to the city.
- Ensures a safe and healthy work environment for staff, visitors, the community and stakeholders, e.g., participates in workplace safety initiatives, participate in formal and informal worksite safety and environment inspections and audits, ensures compliance with the City’s Health and Safety Management System, reports and assists in the analysis of near misses or incidents.
- Participates as a member of the Chestermere Emergency Response team in preparing and enabling the community to respond in the event of a local or regional disaster.

Recommended Required Education and Experience:
- Grade 10 or GED.
- 2 years of related and progressive experience in road maintenance and construction.
Required Certifications and/or Documentation:
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and Drive’s Abstract deemed satisfactory by the city.
- Criminal Record Check deemed satisfactory by the city.
- Standard first aid.
Expected Skills and Attributes:
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Working knowledge of and ability to operate a variety of equipment and vehicles.
- Working knowledge of the City’s OH&S guidelines.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain communication to anticipate and prevent potential problems; develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships.
- Basic knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).
Working Conditions:
- On-call shift rotation which will require work in the evenings, on weekends and holidays.
- Frequent and repetitive motions and positions such as standing, crouching, kneeling, bending.
- Exposure to dirt, oil, grease, etc., often outdoors.
- Travel throughout the region required, occasionally in inclement weather.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.

Compensation: Pay Grade will be determined by position placement.
Pay: 27.048/hr, after 3 months of probation the rate will be $27.859/hr
Days of Work: Monday to Friday
