Position Summary:
Reporting to the Strategic Lead, Event Programming and Partnership, the Events Assistant is primarily responsible for supporting the planning and delivery of City festivals and special events. Chestermere is a fast-growing lakeside community with an active and well-regarded events calendar, and this role sits at the heart of bringing that programming to life, from logistics and vendor coordination to on-site support at some of the city’s most visible community gatherings.
The role requires availability for evenings, weekends, and extended hours on festival days, and suits someone who is hands-on, self-directed, and energized by working in a fast-paced, community-facing environment.
Key Accountabilities:
- Attend and support all assigned festivals and special events, including set-up, on-site operations, and tear-down.
- Host and represent the City at events, providing a professional and welcoming public presence.
- Assist with administrative procedures for festivals and special events, including phone calls, email correspondence, and coordination with vendors and contractors.
- As directed, assist with basic event promotion in support of the Communications team.
- Assist with the preparation of materials and logistics packages for events.
- Maintain and manage inventory of items used for events, including tracking stock levels, logging assets, and flagging items requiring repair or replacement.
- Travel to vendors to source and purchase items for festivals and special events as directed.
- Monitor event-related public inquiries and route or respond.
- Maintain confidentiality and responsible handling of all City information.
- Participate in workplace safety initiatives and comply with the City’s Health and Safety Management System, including reporting near-misses or incidents.
- Perform other related duties consistent with the scope of the position.

Required Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma.
- Previous experience supporting events, festivals, or community programming is preferred.
- Administrative or office experience is an asset.
Required Certifications and/or Documentation:
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s Licence and Driver’s Abstract deemed satisfactory by the City.
- Criminal Record Check deemed satisfactory by the City.
- Standard First Aid Certification.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other software in a Windows environment.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Physically capable of walking, loading, packing, and moving items up to 50 lbs and standing for extended periods of time.
- Has access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s licence; ability to travel to vendor locations and event sites.
Working Conditions:
This position is primarily active and event-facing during the May–September event season, with work taking place both in an office setting and on-site at event locations throughout Chestermere. Regular evening and weekend availability is required, and extended hours on festival days should be expected. Physical demands include prolonged periods of standing, walking, and the ability to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.
Position Type: Temp Full Time (6 months or the return of the incumbent)
Location: City Hall
Compensation: Pay Grade will be determined by position placement.
Pay: $30.30/hr, after 3 months the rate will be $33.30/hr
Days of Work: Monday to Friday (weekends as needed)
