Position Summary:
As a member of the Fleet team, the Apprentice Automotive Assists senior technicians with vehicle inspections, diagnostics, and repairs, performs basic maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, fluid checks, and battery testing. Provides operational and mechanical expertise in the maintenance, upkeep and repair of all licensed and non-licensed vehicles owned by the City. This includes, but is not limited to, the maintenance and repairing vehicle and equipment, emergency response vehicles, hand-operated power tools and machinery, and assisting with upkeep and maintenance of the shop.
Key Accountabilities:
- Provides operational and mechanical expertise in the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of:
- Maintenance and repair of all licensed and non-licensed vehicles such as emergency response vehicle, hand-operated power tools, trucks, trailers, graders, snowplows, sanders; diagnoses equipment problems and determines necessary repairs and methods; performs regular testing; manages all logs.
- Upkeep and maintenance of Fleet Services: ensures tidy workspace, organization of tools, garage space and tool storage areas on a regular basis.
- Maintains documentation of activities, scheduled operations and maintenance activities; collects data for effective budgeting initiatives.
- Appropriate and responsible use of confidential information; maintains confidentiality and security of all information related to the City.
- Ensures a safe and healthy work environment for staff, visitors, the community and stakeholders, e.g., participates in workplace safety initiatives, participate in formal and informal worksite safety and environment inspections and audits, ensures compliance with the City’s Health and Safety Management System, reports and assists in the analysis of near misses or incidents.
- Participates as a member of the Chestermere Emergency Response team in preparing and enabling the community to respond in the event of a local or regional disaster.

Required Education and Experience:
- Enrolled in an Automotive apprenticeship or commitment to enroll
- 1 years of related and progressive mechanical experience.
Required Certifications and/or Documentation:
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and Drive’s Abstract deemed satisfactory by the City.
- Criminal Record Check deemed satisfactory by the City.
Expected Skills and Attributes:
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Working knowledge of and ability to operate a variety of equipment.
- Working knowledge of the City’s OH&S guidelines.
- Strong work ethic and highly motivated; ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to action requests in a timely manner.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain communication to anticipate and prevent potential problems; develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships.
- Basic knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).
- Basic personal tools and tool storage considered an asset
Working Conditions:
- Normal fleet conditions; frequent and repetitive motions and positions such as standing, crouching, kneeling, bending; exposure to dirt, oil, grease, etc., often outdoors.
- On-call shift rotation which will require work in the evenings, on weekends and holidays.
- Some travel throughout the region may be required, occasionally in inclement weather.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.

Compensation: Pay Grade will be determined by position placement.
Pay: $25.974/hr. (you'll find the detailed information in Appendix A of the draft collective agreement)
