Position Summary:
As a member of the Strategic Services team, the Team Lead, Events provides strategic oversight and leadership for the City's events function. This role is responsible for event strategy, budget management, and relationship coordination across internal departments, external partners, non-profit organizations, and vendors. The Team Lead ensures cohesive event delivery through strategic planning, cross-functional collaboration, and supervision of the events team.
Key Accountabilities:
- Provides supervision, support and training for the events team including Events Coordinator(s), seasonal staff, volunteers, and external event contractors.
- Coordinates the events budget and ensures financial accountability for all City events and festivals.
- Creates and maintains an events strategic plan to support achievement of Council's strategic goals and community engagement objectives.
- Oversees the City's event strategies, planning processes, logistics coordination, and evaluation/analytics.
- Serves as the primary liaison between the events function and other City departments including Communications, Operations, Community Support Services, and City Governance.
- Builds and maintains strategic relationships with community partners, non-profit organizations, sponsors, vendors, and contractors to support successful event delivery.
- Advises senior leadership on event strategies, opportunities, and risk management for major civic events, festivals, and community celebrations.
- Provides strategic direction for event partnerships, sponsorships, and collaborative initiatives with external organizations.
- Ensures a safe and healthy work environment for staff, visitors, the community and stakeholders, e.g., participates in workplace safety initiatives; participates in formal and informal worksite safety and environment inspections and audits; ensures compliance with the City’s Health and Safety Management System; reports and assists in the analysis of near misses or incidents.

Required Education and Experience:
- Degree or diploma in Event Management, Business Administration, Communications, Public Relations or related discipline.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in event planning, coordination, or management.
- Supervisory experience.
- Experience working with non-profit organizations and community partnerships considered an asset.
- Municipal government experience considered an asset.
Required Certifications and/or Documentation:
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's Licence and Driver's Abstract deemed satisfactory by the City.
- Criminal Record Check deemed satisfactory by the City.
- Standard First Aid Certification.
- Certification in Event Management (CMP, CSEP, or equivalent) is considered an asset.

Working Conditions:
- Normal office conditions; long periods of sitting, reading and concentration.
- Required to attend evening events, Council/Committee meetings, and community functions.
- Occasional weekend work during major festivals and events.
- Moderate physical demands during event oversight including walking, standing, and site inspections.
- Stress associated with managing multiple stakeholders, tight deadlines, and event-related challenges.

Location: City Hall
Compensation: Pay Grade will be determined by position placement.
Pay: $43.58/hr. (you'll find the detailed information in Appendix A of the draft collective agreement)
