Asset Management Specialist

Position Summary:

As a member of the Asset Services team, the Asset Management Specialist plays a key role in the development and implementation of a new organization-wide Asset Management Program. The incumbent will provide technical guidance and data-driven analysis to optimize municipal infrastructure planning and delivery. They will also extensively collaborate with all departments to advance lifecycle planning, maintain accurate asset data, and ensure sustainable and cost-effective management of City assets.  

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead the creation, rollout, and ongoing refinement of the City’s Asset Management Program, related plans, and strategies.
  • Support and update the Asset Management policy, strategy, and framework to keep them aligned with service levels, financial planning, and overall strategic goals.
  • Provide expert advice on asset lifecycle management, risk analysis, and capital planning, ensuring best practices are consistently applied.
  • Coordinate with departments across the organization to integrate asset management principles into everyday operations and strengthen alignment.
  • Lead and support condition assessments, lifecycle analyses, and risk evaluations that shape long‑term planning, guide maintenance strategies, and inform future capital investment decisions
  • Manage the development and upkeep of asset inventories, ensuring data is accurate and fully integrated across GIS and asset management systems.
  • Create and enhance KPIs, dashboards, and reporting tools to track performance, financial needs, and service outcomes.
  • Deliver analytical insights and recommendations that support sustainable investment decisions, risk reduction, and service optimization.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to City policies.
  • Promote workplace safety and participate in emergency response planning if required.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Engineering, Asset Management, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in asset management, municipal infrastructure planning, or related fields.
  • Experience leading cross-departmental initiatives and projects is required.
  • Familiarity with municipal operations and governance is an asset.
  • Experience with development and implementation of Asset Management Program in municipal governments is preferred.

   Required Certifications and/or Documentation:

  • National Asset Management Strategy (NAMS), Institute of Asset Management (IAM), Canadian Network of Asset Managers (CNAM) or other relevant certifications preferred.
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s Licence and satisfactory Driver’s Abstract.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.

  • Knowledge of municipal legislation, regulatory compliance, and industry best practices.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Detail-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Office environment with extended periods of sitting, reading and concentration.

Position Type: Permanent

Location: City Hall

Compensation: Pay Grade will be determined by position placement.

Pay: $46.15/hr. (you'll find the detailed information in Appendix A of the draft collective agreement) 

Days of Work: Monday to Friday
