We are hiring one (1) Weed Harvester Crew Lead for the upcoming 2026 season:
- One (1) position: May 4, 2026 – August 28, 2026
Schedule: May-July Monday to Friday 730AM-4PM
July & August – Monday to Thursday 630AM-5PM Fridays as needed 630AM-3PM
Position Summary:
- As a member of the Parks team, the Weed Harvesting Crew Lead is responsible for providing seasonal upkeep and maintenance of Chestermere Lake, safe operation of Weed Harvesting equipment and providing leadership to the Lake Weed Harvesting Team.
Key Accountabilities:
- Provide seasonal labour for the maintenance, monitoring, and ongoing enhancement of parks and open spaces in the City of Chestermere.
- Weed harvesting operations: Provides day to day coordination of Weed Harvesting staff, ensures required information is gathered and documented appropriately and operates the harvesting equipment on Chestermere Lake to control aquatic weeds; required to be able to operate the barge, weed trailer and fuel truck.
- Performs daily equipment checks, records inspections as required, performs daily maintenance on all equipment and vehicles, ensures equipment and vehicles are clean and reports any broken or faulty equipment to the Plant Health Care Coordinator and/or the Plant Health Care Crew Lead.
- Provide assistance to other departments or employees as assigned.
- Appropriate and responsible use of confidential information; maintains confidentiality and security of all information related to the City.
- Ensures a safe and healthy work environment for staff, visitors, the community and stakeholders, e.g., participates in workplace safety initiatives, participate in formal and informal worksite safety and environment inspections and audits, ensures compliance with the City’s Health and Safety Management System, reports and assists in the analysis of near misses or incidents.

Education and Experience:
- Grade 10 or GED preferred.
- Experience operating weed harvesters or other equipment considered an asset.
- Experience leading a small crew.
Required Certifications and/or Documentation:
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s Licence and Driver’s Abstract deemed satisfactory by the City.
- Criminal Record Check deemed satisfactory by the City.
- Valid Standard First Aid CPR C and AED certification.
- Valid Pleasure Craft Operators Card
Expected Skills and Attributes:
- Working knowledge of parks maintenance procedures.
- Ability to operate appropriate equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Basic verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic analytical and creative thinking skills, ability to solve problems, make decisions, negotiate and deal effectively with people.
- Strong work ethic and highly motivated; ability to work in fast paced environment and respond to action requests in a timely manner.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.

- Sitting for long periods of time, regular and physically demanding work as well.

Compensation: Pay Grade will be determined by position placement.
Pay: $20.50 - $25.00 *Subject to Shift Premium of $2.00/HR for weekend and certain evening hours
