We are hiring one (1) Plant Health Care Operator for the upcoming 2026 season:

 

  • One (1) positions:         May 4, 2026 – August 28, 2026

 

Schedule: May-August - Monday to Friday 730AM-4PM

  

Position Summary:

  • As a member of the Parks team, the Plant Health Care Operator is responsible for supporting the Plant Health Care team with various tasks related to Arboriculture, Integrated Pest Management as well as other tasks in support of the City’s Parks operations.

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide seasonal labour in the maintenance and continuous improvement of parks and open spaces in the City of Chestermere.
  • Operates a variety of equipment, including Chippers, Loaders, Skid Steers, Large Trucks, Trailers and other equipment.
  • Performs duties related to planting, pruning, watering, monitoring and other maintenance of trees and shrubs.
  • Duties may include physical labour associated with landscaping tasks. shoveling, lifting, sweeping etc.
  • Performs daily equipment checks, records inspections as required, performs daily maintenance on all equipment and vehicles, ensures equipment and vehicles are clean and reports any broken or faulty equipment to the Plant Health Care Coordinator and/or the Plant Health Care Crew Lead.
  • Provide assistance to other departments or employees as assigned.
  • Ensure the duties and responsibilities assigned are completed in the most efficient, safe and effective manner.
  • Appropriate and responsible use of confidential information; maintains confidentiality and security of all information related to the City.
  • Ensures a safe and healthy work environment for staff, visitors, the community and stakeholders, e.g., participates in workplace safety initiatives, participate in formal and informal worksite safety and environment inspections and audits, ensures compliance with the City’s Health and Safety Management System, reports and assists in the analysis of near misses or incidents.

Education and Experience:

  • 18 years of age with completion of a High School Diploma is preferred
  • Experience in tree and shrub maintenance considered an asset.
  • Experience with operating equipment considered an asset

 

Required Certifications and/or Documentation:

  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s Licence and Driver’s Abstract deemed satisfactory by the city.
  • Criminal Record Check deemed satisfactory by the city.
  • Valid Standard First Aid CPR C and AED certification.

 

Expected Skills and Attributes:

  • Working knowledge of parks maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to operate appropriate equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Basic verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic analytical and creative thinking skills, ability to solve problems, make decisions, negotiate and deal effectively with people.
  • Strong work ethic and highly motivated; ability to work in fast paced environment and respond to action requests in a timely manner.

  • Standing, walking or driving for extended periods of time.

  • Required to perform moderately physical work and carry up to 50 pounds

Compensation: Pay Grade will be determined by position placement.

Pay: $19.50 - $24.00 *Subject to Shift Premium of $2.00/HR for weekend and certain evening hours

Days of Work: Monday to Friday

Start Date: May 5 – End Date: August 29 subject to change
