We are hiring Two (2) Water Truck for the upcoming 2026 season:
- One (1) position: May 04th - August 28th

Position Summary:
As a member of the Community Operations - Parks team, this position is responsible for the watering and upkeep of flower displays, trees and shrubs and gardening duties around the city.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Watering and fertilizing flower displays, trees and shrubs
- Preparing planters and flower beds for planting of flowers
- Park maintenance; general gardening, picking litter, changing garbage cans
This position provides seasonal assistance in the attainment of annual goals and initiatives within the City of Chestermere’s Strategic Plan.

The Seasonal, Water Truck Operator represents the values and beliefs of the City of Chestermere, both internally and externally.
Main responsibilities:
- Demonstrate the City values of Collaboration, Humour and Fun, Integrity, Professionalism, and Accountability.
- Ensure a safe and healthy work environment for staff, visitors, the community and stakeholders, e.g., participate in workplace safety initiatives, participate in formal and informal worksite safety and environment inspections and audits.
- Participation in safety meetings, tool box meetings, daily vehicle inspections and hazard assessments
- Responsible for using confidential information appropriately, and maintaining the confidentiality and security of all information related to the city.
- Seasonal, Water Truck Operator accountabilities
- Provide seasonal labour in:
- Watering all flower displays, trees and shrubs as assigned.
- Fertilizing all flower displays on schedule.
- Maintaining cleanliness of the parks
- Assist with park maintenance e.g. gardening duties which includes but not limited to weeding, edging, cultivating and deadheading flowers, picking litter and changing garbage cans.
- Equipment upkeep, e.g., keep equipment clean; report broken or faulty equipment to the Parks Gardening Coordinator.
- Preparation of planters and beds for planting purposes.
- Support safe operation of water trucks in the parks and on road ways throughout the season.
- Conduct inventory of supplies needed.
- As required, participate in the assessment of the current and future needs of the parks, gathering input and feedback.
- As required, participate in the enhancement and implementation of City and Department Policies and Procedures within legislative, regulatory requirements and best practices.

Required education and experience:
- High School Diploma (minimum requirement).
- Currently attending a post-secondary institution (asset).
- Previous landscape maintenance and/or water truck experience (asset).
Required knowledge, skills, and attributes:
- Required certifications and/or documentation
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License.
- Drivers Abstract deemed satisfactory by the City.
- Clear Criminal Record deemed satisfactory by the City.
- Valid Standard First Aid CPR C and AED certifications or obtain within 30 days of hiring.
- Expected skills and attributes
- Working knowledge of parks maintenance procedures.
- Analytical and creative thinking skills as a member of the Community Operations - Parks team, e.g., ability to solve problems, make decisions, negotiate and deal effectively with people.
- Communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form, e.g., maintain ongoing communication to anticipate and prevent potential problems, develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships with other seasonal staff, the public and other stakeholders.
- Strong work ethic and highly motivated, e.g., ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to action requests and competing deadlines in a timely matter.
- Ability to be self motivated and utilize time effectively to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
- Ability to read and understand SDS sheets and cleaning product labels.
- Ability to lift 23 kgs/50lbs
- Ability to operate appropriate equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Preferred skills and attributes
- Previous ground maintenance experience (removing weeds, garbage, flowerbeds, etc.).
- Operation of water truck or similar.
- Knowledge of annual plants and understanding of watering requirements.
Working Conditions:
- Majority of outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions.
- Regular, physically demanding work, including standing, walking, crouching for extended periods of time
- Regularly working within the community.
- Provide assistance to other departments or employees as needed.
- May encounter unpleasant interactions with members of the public and other stakeholders.
- Personal Protective Equipment required e.g. Steel toed boots
- Driving regularly between sites to perform duties.
