We are hiring Four (4) Boat Launch Attendant for the upcoming 2026 season:

 

  • One (1) position:      May 1st - September 7th

Position Summary:

As a member of the Community Operations - Parks team, this position is responsible for collecting fees for the use of the boat launch, the upkeep of the boat launch area and gardening duties in John Peake Park.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Administer launch permits, collect fees and manage user data
  • Maintain John Peake Park including but not limited to gardening, litter picking, cleaning washrooms
  • Dissemination of Lake safety information to boaters
  • Conduct boat counts and collect boating and Lake user data

This position provides seasonal assistance in the attainment of annual goals and initiatives within the City of Chestermere’s Strategic Plan.

  1. Community Operations - Parks Team

The Seasonal Boat Launch Attendant represents the values and beliefs of the City of Chestermere, both internally and externally.

 

Main responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate the City values of Collaboration, Humour and Fun, Integrity, Professionalism, and Accountability.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy work environment for staff, visitors, the community and stakeholders, e.g., participate in workplace safety initiatives, participate in formal and informal worksite safety and environment inspections and audits.
  • Participating in safety meetings, toolbox meetings, daily vehicle inspections, hazard assessments and working alone procedures.
  • Responsible for using confidential information appropriately and maintaining the confidentiality and security of all information related to the city.

Main responsibilities:

  • Administer launch permits, collect fees and manage user data
  • Assist users of the boat launch and park, providing quality customer service
  • Providing comprehensive Lake safety education to every user who comes to use the launch
  • Conduct boat counts and Lake data collection
  1. Seasonal Boat Launch Attendant accountabilities
  • Provide seasonal labour in:
    • Collection of fees for use of the boat launch e.g., collection of fees for use of the boat launch; ensure that fees collected are documented, balanced and safely deposited at the appropriate site.
    • Upkeep of the boat launch area e.g., responsible for litter picking, changing garbage cans, cleaning up weeds from the boat launch area; ensuring that the fee building and washrooms are cleaned on a daily basis.
    • Park maintenance e.g. gardening duties of John Peake Park which includes but not limited to weeding, watering, edging, cultivating and deadheading flowers.
    • Equipment upkeep, e.g., keep equipment clean; report broken or faulty equipment to the Parks Gardening Coordinator.
    • Dissemination of boating education to the public e.g. Discuss boating etiquette and Lake rules with boaters before launching
    • Boat counts and lake use data collection; support safe boating education, track traffic patterns on the Lake throughout the season.
    • Conduct inventory of supplies needed at facility.
    • As required, participate in the assessment of the current and future needs of the boat launch, gathering input and feedback.
    • As required, participate in the enhancement and implementation of City and Department Policies and Procedures within legislative, regulatory requirements and best practices.

Required education and experience:

  • High School Diploma (minimum requirement)
  • Currently attending a post-secondary institution or completion (asset)
  • Pleasure Craft Operator Card with recent boating experience (asset)

Required knowledge, skills, and attributes:

  • Required certifications and/or documentation
  • Clear Criminal Record deemed satisfactory by the City.
  • Valid Standard First Aid CPR C and AED certifications or obtain within 30 days of hiring.

 

 

  • Expected skills and attributes
  • Working knowledge of parks maintenance procedures.
  • Proficient computer skills, Microsoft Office, Excel
  • Analytical and creative thinking skills as a member of the Community Operations - Parks team, e.g., ability to solve problems, make decisions, negotiate and deal effectively with people.
  • Communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form, e.g., maintain ongoing communication to anticipate and prevent potential problems, develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships with other staff, the public and other stakeholders.
  • Strong work ethic and highly motivated, e.g., ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to action requests and competing deadlines in a timely matter.
  • Ability to be self motivated and utilize time effectively to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to read and understand SDS sheets and cleaning product labels.
  • Ability to lift 23 kgs/50lbs.
  • Preferred skills and attributes
  • Previous landscape maintenance experience (removing weeds, garbage, flowerbeds, cleaning washrooms, etc.).
  • Customer service experience

Working Conditions:

  • Weekend and evening availability are required
  • Moderate outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Regular, physically demanding work, including standing, walking, crouching for extended periods of time
  • Regularly working within the community.
  • Provide assistance to other departments or employees as needed.
  • May encounter unpleasant interactions with members of the public and other stakeholders.
  • Stress associated with providing a city presence at the boat launch to monitor littering, inappropriate use of facilities and report to appropriate personnel as needed.
  • Stress associated with risk management and the responsibility for the safety of citizens.
  • Personal Protective Equipment required e.g. Steel toed boots

Compensation: Pay Grade will be determined by position placement.

Pay: $18.50 - $20.09 *Subject to Shift Premium of $2.00/HR for weekend and certain evening hours

Days of Work:

  • Must be available weekends and evenings
  • Shifts range from 7:30AM – 8:00PM - 7 days/week
