Position Summary:

As a member of the Community Support Services Department, this position provides entry level programming and administrative support, focusing on improving the quality of life of individuals and families in Chestermere and Area. The primary day to day responsibilities will fall under the Community Development Facilitator.

The Community Support Services Summer Student is responsible for assisting with the implementation of community development activities and programming, as well as provide support in organizing and delivering social programs.

Main Responsibilities:

Administrative Work

 

Main Activities (Tasks):

  1. Assist Community Support Services with planning and implementation of community-based activities such as neighbourhood Block Parties, Community Gardens, Vitality Grants and other programs and special events within the Department. Responsibilities include: program design, promotion, material preparation, registration, set up and take down of special events and data collection to ensure that required documentation is on file.
  2. Assist in office related tasks such as providing support during meetings, database management  and in-house research.
  3. Support the delivery of programs with full consideration of the safety of staff, volunteers and participants, e.g., supervision, staff/participant ratio, facility/equipment safety, emergency preparedness, reporting of potential risk issues, confidentiality etc.
  4. Responsible for using confidential information appropriately and maintaining the confidentiality and security of all information related to the City.

Education and Experience:

Student must be between the ages of 16-30 at the time of application. Educational enrollment is not mandatory.

Required knowledge, skills, and attributes:

  • Required certifications and/or documentation
  • Clear Criminal Record, Child Intervention and Vulnerable Sector Checks deemed satisfactory by the City.
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License and a Driver’s Abstract deemed satisfactory by the City.
  • Expected skills and attributes
  • Demonstrated ability in the use of community systems including Microsoft Office and other software in a Windows environment, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Works well independently and as a committed team player.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Strong time management, organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent customer services skills.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Normal office conditions.
  • Long periods of sitting, reading and concentration.
  • Periods of physical activity i.e.: garden maintenance & preparing equipment and materials for programming
  • Occasionally working within the community and interacting with the public.
  • Occasionally working after hours and weekends to attend community events, and facilitate programs.
  • May encounter unpleasant interactions with staff and other stakeholders.
  • Stress associated with risk management, and the responsibility for the well – being and safety of citizens.

Position Type: Term Position 9 weeks

Location: City Hall  

Compensation: Pay Grade will be determined by position placement.

Pay: $18.00/ Hr.  (you'll find the detailed information in Appendix A of the draft collective agreement)

Days of Work: Monday to Friday
