We are hiring up to One (1) Construction Crew Lead for the upcoming 2026 season:

 

  • One (1) positions:         May 4, 2026 – August 28, 2026

 

Schedule: Monday to Friday 7:00am – 3:30pm

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Landscape Coordinator, the Parks Landscape Construction Crew Lead is responsible for assisting the Landscape Coordinator in the overall upkeep and maintenance of the city parks, green spaces and playgrounds.

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Maintain city parks and green spaces by performing the following responsibilities: litter picking, digging trenches, preparation of topsoil and sod, bike park maintenance, amenity repair and irrigation repairs.
  • Lead a crew of labourers in effectively and efficiently completing daily tasks
  • Provide assistance to other departments or employees as needed.
  • Ensure the duties and responsibilities as outlined are completed in the most efficient, effective and safe manner.
  • Responsible for using confidential information appropriately and maintaining the confidentiality and security of all information related to the city.
  • Demonstrates city values of Collaboration, Humour and Fun, Integrity, Professionalism, and Accountability.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Experience operating small motorized equipment such as lawnmowers and weed whippers.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of parks maintenance procedures.
  • Working knowledge of basic operating equipment.
  • Basic carpentry (sanding, sawing and painting)
  • Ability to operate and maintain small motorized equipment, (plate tamper, cement mixer, jumping jack, chop saw, etc.)
  • Ability to multi-task and compete tasks in a timely manner with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral form.
  • Possess a class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Possess a Driver’s Abstract deemed satisfactory by the city.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Majority of work is performed in outdoor conditions.
  • Required to perform moderate physical work, and lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Compensation: Pay Grade will be determined by position placement.

Pay: 21.00/hr.- 24.00/hr. (you'll find the detailed information in Appendix A of the draft collective agreement)

Days of Work: Monday to Friday

Start Date: May 4 – End Date: August 28 subject to change
