Seasonal Stormwater Labourer

Position Summary:
As a member of the Stormwater team, the labourer is responsible for providing assistance in the upkeep, maintenance and tracking of City's Storm infrastructure.
Key Accountabilities:
- Handles tasks related to the City’s stormwater systems, prioritizing needs based on data, ensures proper functioning storm system; provides effective operations of storm drainage system by cleaning out catch basins and swales; addresses issues related to storm water discharge and drainage.
- Provides a variety of construction, maintenance and repair and public property.
- Operates city owned vehicles and equipment in a safe and efficient manner. (Pickup trucks, Skid steers, HydroVac, and related machinery)
- Perform heavy manual labour such as lifting and shoveling.
- Complete paperwork and forms related to specific tasks.
- Utilize various hand tools and power tools to complete tasks.
- Ensures a safe and healthy work environment for staff, visitors, the community and stakeholders, e.g., participates in workplace safety initiatives, participate in formal and informal worksite safety and environment inspections and audits, ensures compliance with the City’s Health and Safety Management System, reports and assists in the analysis of near misses or incidents.
- Appropriate and responsible use of confidential information; maintains confidentiality and security of all information related to the city.
- Ensure “pre-trips” and Equipment Checklists are completed daily and any equipment concerns are addressed.
- Other duties as assigned
Preferred Education and Certifications:
- Grade 12 or GED preferred.
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s Licence and Drive’s Abstract deemed satisfactory by the city.
- Criminal Record Check deemed satisfactory by the City.
- Valid Standard First Aid CPR C and AED certification would be an asset.
Expected Skills and Attributes:
- Ability to operate appropriate equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Basic analytical and creative thinking skills; ability to read and understand pesticide labels, ability to solve problems, make decisions, negotiate and deal effectively with people.
- Strong work ethic and highly motivated; ability to work in fast paced environment and respond to action requests in a timely manner.
- Basic verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Working Conditions:
- Regular outdoor working conditions.
- Personal Protective Equipment required.
- Physically demanding work, including standing and walking for extended periods of time.
