Position Summary:
As a member of the IT Services team, the IT Technician provides technical support and IT duties in support of the City’s IT program and services. This including, but is not limited to customer service, general support and Helpdesk; monitoring and maintaining technology; assisting in projects; and supporting 24/7 access, security and reliability.
Key Accountabilities:
Provides technical support and expertise in the implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of:
- Customer service, general support and Helpdesk: assists the Mayor, Council and all staff with regards to computer hardware and software; determines and documents problems and solutions; provides business systems, application, network and internet support; advises and trains new users; supports onboarding and offboarding, provides access to all required hardware and software; maintains VPN accounts and assist users, Administers physical security systems.
- Monitoring and maintaining technology: install and maintain hardware and software; assists in maintaining all desktops, servers, printers and network equipment; ensures that IT equipment in Council Chambers and all meeting rooms are in good working order; maintains and updates inventory of computer equipment; assists in the development of maintenance schedule for replacing/upgrading computer equipment.
- Supporting 24/7 access, security and reliability: digital asset management including backups, e-mail and file system administration; maintains records of all users account file permissions and passwords; installs and maintains security software and hardware and security patches, and anti-malware.
- Participates in the assessment of the current and future needs of IT Services; participate in training for new and current programs, applications and technologies.
- Maintain communication with entire IT team; ensuring any conflicts are communicated to the Manager.
- Networks with subject matter experts and service providers in other municipalities, consultants, etc.
- Appropriate and responsible use of confidential information; maintains confidentiality and security of all information related to the City.
- Ensures a safe and healthy work environment for staff, visitors, the community and stakeholders, e.g., participates in workplace safety initiatives, participate in formal and informal worksite safety and environment inspections and audits, ensures compliance with the City’s Health and Safety Management System, reports and assists in the analysis of near misses or incidents.

Required Education and Experience:
- Certifications or Post Secondary education in Computer Technology or a related discipline such as CompTIA+, Network+, MSCE, or similar
- 5 years of related and progressively responsible computer technology experience.
Required Certifications and/or Documentation:
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s Licence and Drive’s Abstract deemed satisfactory by the City.
- Criminal Record Check deemed satisfactory by the City.
Expected Skills and Attributes:
- Proficient computer skills and strong understanding of MS Office, Active Directory, Windows Administration, and basic troubleshooting skills in these areas.
- Familiarity with Cisco products, AV Equipment, Document Management Systems, Physical security and Identity and Access management skills considered an asset.
- Strong customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Analytical, creative thinking and problem-solving skills; ability to solve problems and make decisions.
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret relevant legislation.
- Strong work ethic and highly motivated with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to action requests in a timely matter.
Working Conditions:
- Long periods of sitting, reading and concentration.
- On-call shifts and working outside normal office hours may be required.
- Rotating evening shifts when technical maintenance is required or for council meetings.
- Working at all municipal buildings including repair shops, server rooms and other external sites will be required. Suitable personal protective equipment and training will be required depending on environment.
- Stress associated with risk management and the responsibility for the provision of technical support for all City staff.
- Working from heights may be required, including but not limited to working on a ladder to install cameras and reaching access points.
- Must be able to lift 30lbs comfortably

Compensation: Pay Grade will be determined by position placement.
Pay: $35.93. (you'll find the detailed information in Appendix A of the draft collective agreement)
